NASHVILLE “MAY DAY” PROTEST
The “Hiwaymen” first appeared on our radar after a coalition of III%, Proud Boys and out-of-state Bigots organized a counter protest to a 2017 May Day event in Nashville. Although the event was non-violent and the coalition of hate groups failed to stop a planned march from reaching the capital steps multiple members had shown up with pistols, shields and other weapons ready to attack attendees at the event. One member in particular Cheatham County resident Terry Harris was revealed as an active member of the Hiwaymen and played a key role in mobilizing the hate group in Nashville.
The “Hiwaymen” have organized “Pro-Confederate” rallies across the south and were in attendance at “Unite The Right” in Charlottesville, Virgina. Members have also attended events in Portland Oregon, Memphis Tennessee, and Chapel Hill North Carolina. In 2019 the Hiwaymen attacked attendees at a “Trans Day Of Visibility” event at the Arkansas State Capitol. This violence transpires after the same group was photographed demonstrating with members of The Shieldwall Network a few weeks prior.
DEMONSTRATION WITH Shieldwall Network
After the attack Kevin Holland of the Hiwaymen made a video on social media calling for more acts of violence and aggression towards Trans people and Progressive Activists to which followers cheered and offered to join in the violence. Organizer Billy Helton also admitted to his men attacking individuals via social media
Our collective along with the help of other affiliate groups have compiled a social media inquiry and data sheet of known pages and profiles associated the Hiwaymen. Several of the organization’s leaders such as George “K-Rack” Jhonson and Andrew “Black Rebel” Duncomb operate “support pages” on social media and have organized Pro-Confederate rallies, marches, etc. through them. The list compiled focuses on the group in Arkansas that carried out the hate crime against the “Trans Day Of Visibility” event, and highlights figures that have been reported engaging in violence in other cities outside of Arkansas. The list will be regularly updated in the coming weeks as more members are documented and events transpire.
